Threads

Threads supports text, images, videos, and albums, plus reply chains that publish several posts in a row.

Post types

Type	API value	What it publishes
Text	text	A text-only post.
Image	image	One image with a caption.
Video	video	One video with a caption.
Album	album	A carousel of 2 to 20 items with a caption. Images and videos can be mixed.

Media requirements

Images

• Formats: JPEG, PNG.
• File size: up to 8 MB per image.

Videos

• Formats: MP4, MOV with H.264 video and AAC audio.
• File size: up to 1 GB.
• Duration: up to 5 minutes.
• Width: up to 1920 px.

Text limits

• Caption (description): up to 500 characters, including hashtags and @mentions. Emojis count by their UTF-8 byte length, so one emoji can use more than one character.
• Alt text (medias[].alt): up to 1,000 characters.
• Text attachment (additionalInfo.textAttachment.text): up to 10,000 characters.

Topic	topic	All types	Adds one topic tag to the post, up to 50 characters. Periods (.) and ampersands (&) aren't allowed.
Replies	replies	All types	Publishes a chain of posts under your post, each with its own type, text, and media.
Text Attachment	additionalInfo.textAttachment	Text	Attaches a long text under the post that opens like an article, with an optional link at its end. Each text reply can have its own too.
AI Generated Content	additionalInfo.isAiGenerated	All types	Adds Threads' AI info label to the post and to every reply of the thread, for content made or changed with AI.

Replies are available only when every account in the schedule is Threads or X. Each reply has its own type, description, topic, medias, a text attachment when it's a text reply, and a Delay, delay in the API: the minutes it waits after the post before it. 0 posts it right away. A delay can't be shorter than the one of the reply before it, and all delays together can't exceed 1440 minutes (24 hours).

The text attachment is posted as plain text, without bold, italic, or other styles. A post can have at most 5 links, counting the links in the caption and the attachment's link.
