Threads

Threads supports text, images, videos, and albums, plus reply chains that publish several posts in a row.

Post types

Type	API value	What it publishes
Text	text	A text-only post.
Image	image	One image with a caption.
Video	video	One video with a caption.
Album	album	A carousel of 2 to 20 items with a caption. Images and videos can be mixed.

Media requirements

Images

• Formats: JPEG, PNG.
• File size: up to 8 MB per image.

Videos

• Formats: MP4, MOV with H.264 video and AAC audio.
• File size: up to 1 GB.
• Duration: up to 5 minutes.
• Width: up to 1920 px.

Text limits

• Caption (description): up to 500 characters, including hashtags and @mentions. Emojis count by their UTF-8 byte length, so one emoji can use more than one character.
• Alt text (medias[].alt): up to 1,000 characters.

Extra options

Topic	topic	All types	Adds one topic tag to the post, up to 50 characters. Periods (.) and ampersands (&) aren't allowed.
Replies	replies	All types	Publishes a chain of posts under your post, each with its own type, text, and media.

Replies are available only when every account in the schedule is Threads or X. Each reply has its own type, description, topic, and medias.
